Architecture buffs will enjoy spotting details from each era, including the Colonial Revival columns in the foyer, original floors on the second story, window moulding from its first renovation, and hand-painted chinoiserie wallpaper in the dining room that dates to the early 1900s. The current owners, Richard Smoot and John Butler, bought the place in 2015, converting it from a private residence to a bed-and-breakfast. Each of its five rooms has a different theme, like The Gardener, a room filled floor-to-ceiling with antique botanicals and stacks of gardening magazines next to the clawfoot tub in en-suite bathroom.

Built in 1926, it was the private residence of local businessman James Bromfield until the 1950s. Pam and Abe Pallas bought the inn in 2017 from its fourth owner, Reginald Heinitsh, to turn it into a bed-and-breakfast. They kept the original floors, waved windows, pocket doors, and arched entryways, and added spacious bathrooms with clawfoot tubs and walk-in showers to all six guest rooms.

This house was built in 1851 as a trading post for Leander Sams Gash, one of the City of Brevard's founders. During the Civil War, trade with Charleston nearly ceased and the trading post became the Moore Hotel starting in 1861. It later served as a boarding house to serve Low Country visitors. In 1896, the building was rented to the Fitch Taylors who used it as a mission school known as the Epworth Institute, the forerunner of the Brevard Institute (later Brevard College). After the institute moved to the site of the present Brevard College, the Red House continued to function as a private school run by a Miss Stancil. In 1912, the house was remodeled as two apartments. Now known as the Red House Inn, it is a bed and breakfast.

Asheville, with its art deco wedding cake city hall and other architectural treasures, nestles at the juncture of the French Broad and the Swannanoa Rivers. George Vanderbilt built an estate near here in 1895 and got his wealthy friends to come join him; they built huge houses, many of them now doing service as bed-and-breakfast inns. Asheville blossomed during the 1920s as a cool refuge from the summer heat for wealthy Deep South planters. But the Great Depression ended all that, and the development of air conditioning made a number of hotter Southern resorts bearable through the summer. 2ff7e9595c
